Apex legends is a new battle royale game that combines the intense action of a hero shooter with the excitement of a battle royale game. The game features a large cast of characters and a variety of weapons to help players survive in the chaotic environment.
For over 2 years now Apex Legends has been an amazing game to play. The legends, gunplay, THE MOVEMENT, and overall core of the gameplay are by far one of, if not the best we've seen in the battle royale genre. Along with Fortnite, Apex has carved out an identity for how the game is played. Fornite focuses on allowing you to build your own cover to avoid unfavorable situations. Apex on the other hand focuses on how you use the momentum from your running, slides, jumping/wall jumping to put you in a better position while combined with the abilities of the legends.
Apex Legends Mobile is rooted in the immersive and ever-evolving Apex Legends universe where unpredictable conditions, challenges, and Legends will be continuously introduced to shake up the competition. You can’t just jump into Apex Legends by yourself, for example. It’s a team-only affair that encourages (demands, really) three players to work together at all times. The extra wrinkle is that every player selects a “Legend” before each round. These hero classes come with their own subtle, but often game-changing abilities. And having three Legends to a squad opens up a world of tactical possibilities that go beyond “I found the good gun.”
Apex Legends Mobile is built from the ground up for mobile devices, featuring the Legends, abilities, and locations Apex fans know and love with streamlined controls and thoughtful optimizations to make the competition feel fast and fun on mobile devices. Apex Legends Mobile will also feature new mobile-only maps, gameplay modes, and more unique content for the platform to come.
It’s still early days for Apex Legends. But if you had told me just earlier this year that Respawn Entertainment was making a battle royale first-person shooter, without any features from its critically beloved Titanfall series, I would have called it creatively doomed from the start. Luckily, I was dead wrong. Apex Legends is an absolutely fabulous game — one that’s made me a believer in the battle royale sub-genre for the first time ever.
Yes, Apex Legends will get all the things you expect from games like these. There’s already a battle pass around the corner and a Valentine’s Day event has given us some exclusive skins. Cross-play is in the works, too. Yet I can’t help but hope the game’s overnight success will lead to even greater, wilder things that only Respawn can do: like the five-story robots I loved so much in the studio’s last game.
If anything, though, the game should be more confident about its depth. That is to say, it desperately needs a better tutorial. Apex Legends’ current introduction is a laughably oversimplified, five-minute trip to a gun range that tells you how to shoot. It does not reveal that colored damage numbers tell you what kind of shields an enemy is wearing, or that you can run up walls.
All of which is to say: Apex Legends is far from creatively bankrupt. The economic future of multiplayer shooters is decidedly battle royale-focused… for now. But Respawn had to go and prove there was still plenty to accomplish in this space. Here’s hoping it goes on to prove there’s even more to add. Because Apex Legends, as it is now, is already the best battle royale game. Period.
It’s fantastic. Mad dashes for beacons are some of the most dramatic adventures I’ve had in any shooter — much less a battle royale. Plus the intense speed and maneuverability of Apex Legends, while not directly lifted from Titanfall 2, has Respawn’s signature smoothness. As does the gunplay, which does feel directly lifted from the studio’s previous games. So while this new game smartly funnels me toward impromptu spectacle, I enjoy every minute of it in a way that the so-so shooting in other battle royale games can’t match.

Set in the world of Titanfall but without titans or wall-running, Apex Legends is Respawn’s take on the battle royale genre. Apex Legends is all about teamwork, with 20 three-person teams vying to be the last team standing. The progression of a match will be familiar to anyone who has played a battle royale: Drop from the sky, scavenge for gear, make it inside the circle before the playable area shrinks. Where Apex Legends differs is that it also has hero shooter elements. Each of the eight characters has its own unique abilities and ultimate moves ranging from defensive moves to portal warping to all-out mortar strikes. And death isn’t permanent. You can revive fallen teammates and even resurrect them by bringing their dog tags to a beacon.
Apex Legends came out of the gate strong in 2019 as Respawn (and EA’s) entry into the battle royale genre that gained western popularity with the multi-billion The Hunger Games franchise, then PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and, of course, the now ever-present Fortnite. Apex blends the character-driven combat of Overwatch with the slow-burn collaboration of a battle royale.

The post-apocalyptic shooter is also early in its life cycle, meaning that now is an excellent time to jump in and try our Apex Legends tips. There will also be a steady stream of Apex Legends new Legends for players to sink their teeth into, which promises to freshen up the battle royale’s meta every few months. There’s also a very good chance you’ll bump into someone from this office. Be gentle, please.
It’s easy to say that Apex Legends is a game worthy of attention for diversity and inclusion with an ever-growing cast of characters with different tones, bodies, gender identities, sexual preferences, accents, and class backgrounds, all tied up in interesting lore. But I think we need to commend developer Respawn Entertainment for committing to feminist gaming in a tangible way.
